Cox’s Bazar (BD) Edition
“Kalik” invites Creative practitioners, makers, researchers, curators and art activists from diverse range of experiences to apply for a three-week long studio residency fellowship in Cox’s Bazar.
It is a curator-run artist residency fellowship that travels to new places to offers unique opportunity for artists/creative practitioners/curators/researchers to be facilitated with a studio residency program under an intense curatorial collaboration. The name “Kalik” (কালিক) means “temporary” which refers to its format that keeps moving to different places and function through unconventional infrastructures to explore potentials of creative process beyond conventional hubs/cubes in the art scene. Each location of the residency is part of a larger collaboration between “Kalik” and a wide range of network with studio facilities located in outskirts of Dhaka, Tangail, Chottogram, Cox’s Bazar, Kushtia, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Barisal and also outside Bangladesh like in India, Nepal, Sri-Lanka so far.
The first edition of “Kalik” studio residency fellowship will take place in Cox’s Bazar this year. This edition is a collaborative initiative by Cox’s Bazar Art Club-CAC and Art Initiative Bangladesh-AIB.
This Residency fellowship is a distinctive opportunity for creative practitioners to live and explore cox’s bazar and develop new or on-going work in local context under a curatorial collaboration. The curatorial observation is the most unique and important element that this residency offers, where the resident artist gets to share the time and space with a curator and shape up their creative process under an intense mentorship.
This opportunity is best fitted for artists who wants to expand their practices beyond existing comfort zone and seeking support to navigate the next level of their work with mutual understanding in a collaborative process. Artists will be highly encouraged to explore public spaces and community cultures as much as possible with safety measures during their stay, since this residency is envisioned to place creativity and innovations beyond conventional studio work and to motivate an inclusive artistic process. At the end of the residency, artist can have an exhibition also artist will deliver at-least one workshop/presentation/talk within the fellowship period.
Applications are welcome from local and international artists till 10th September 2021.
The application fee (non-refundable) for this residency is 1200 BDT for local applicant and 25 USD for international applicant. The application fee includes a shared living space and a working studio space. “Kalik” supports with curatorial supervision, documentation, promotion, design and local networking.
“Kalik” is a space free of gender, religion and caste discrimination.
Interested applicants must fill in the application form where they send in their short Bio with portrait image and portfolio of previous work along with a note with not more than 500 words explaining three things, 1. why they need this residency a 2. what are they planning to work on during the residency, 3. What kind of expectations they have from the curatorial collaboration.
In special situations due to the current pandemic, the residency period can be flexible upon advance discussion and agreement with the selected applicants.
